The new Lizard® RS13 generation.

"Nevertheless, the demand for a significantly more compact design and significantly lower weight became louder and louder and so we responded at the right time with the Lizard® series introduced in 2014. Compared to the Rocky, we have reduced the weight and height more than 50% to 2.5 kg and 31 mm respectively. The Lizard® RS of the 1st generation was available for five years. A period that is unusual in the IT sector and no longer state-of-the-art at the end of the product lifecycle, but is very beneficial to our customers with long-term defence projects. Now it was time to upgrade to the 2-core Kaby-Lake platform (Intel® Core™ i7-7600U processor), which also brought some more interesting Lizard® RS13 features," adds Kaysser.

In addition to the intended upgrade to 16 GB DDR4 RAM (2133 SO-DIMM) and the Intel HD Graphics 620 graphics card in full HD (1920x1080), the standard interface expansion was also a market requirement that was implemented. In addition to 2x USB3.1 Gen1 and 1x GBit LAN, the basic RS13 now has a RS232 and a DisplayPort (alternatively VGA) interface. The capacity of the SSD hard disk can be up to 1 Terabyte and can now be removed from the laptop by the user without tools via knurled screws.

Despite the small scale and low weight, customer-specific requirements can be implemented. So roda remains true to its customization philosophy. Three of the following five military connection combinations (USB2.0, RS232, RS422, VGA, GBit-LAN, Audio) are possible via compact round plugs. Internally, the thinnest roda laptop can be upgraded with two Mini PCIe cards and two M2 slots each. W-LAN/Bluetooth, GPS and TPM2.0 modules are only mentioned here for the sake of completeness.

Without compromise, the fanless Lizard® RS13 meets the requirements of IP 65 protection (with open caps and optionally also for the AC adapter), MIL-STD 810G (environment) and optionally MIL-STD 461G (EMC) as well as NATO SDIP 27 Level B(ER). This qualifies the Lizard® series for highly mobile applications under the most adverse conditions.

The Lizard® RS13 can be ordered now and can be delivered from October 2019. Its predecessor, the Lizard® RS11, is already end-of-life, and a last-time buy is possible until January 2020. For devices in use, roda offers a service and spare parts guarantee until at least July 2024.
